Here’s one we get ALL THE TIME: “how broken is too broken to ride”. The answer might be more complicated than you think! Tune in to find out.
Dan: 00:02 Welcome to the #carbonqueries podcast, the interactive show where we answer your carbon fiber related questions hosted by Ruckus Composites. You can submit a question using the Hashtag carbon queries on instagram, facebook, twitter, linkedin, or email.
Shawn: 00:16 Today’s question comes from instagram. We get this one quite often. Actually. Is there any kind of damage that is safe enough to ride on? Can it be just a little broken?
Dan: 00:29 Can you take a stab at this one? First and foremost, we’re going to say that no damages safe to ride on, obviously because it’s built into our business model, but furthermore, the real reason is it’s those risks aren’t worth it. Is your top tube going to crack like let’s say your top tube is broken, is it going to break your next ride? Most likely not, but the chances are that it could write in our eyes. It’s not worth putting yourself or your customers in these kinds of risks. Simply it’s, it’s just not worth it. You know, if you choose to work with us, A) our repair prices are a not that expensive for the quality that you get. B) well below the threshold of what a crash replacement would be and C) if you end up hurting yourself, your medical bills are going to be way higher than the cost of repair in the first place. So again, obviously we’re going to tell you that if it’s broken you shouldn’t ride it, but that’s not just because we want to fix it because it’s not worth it and that’s our take on that matter.
Shawn: 01:31 You like this Dan knowingly taking your sailboat out on the water knowing it’s got a bunch of leaks.
Dan: 01:39 I do like that, right, because we all know that a ship floats until it sinks. Exactly. And you don’t want that ship to sink when you’re descending at 40 miles an hour, like all that one. And before you know it pretty much was Dan’s favorite quote. So is there any damage safe enough to ride? We say no, you may feel differently. We sure don’t.
