What’s the opportunity?
We repair carbon-fiber bike frames at Ruckus Composites, but more so, we help fellow cyclists get back on the road through an innovative mix of empathy and science.
In 2021, we want to engage with a self-employed independent contractor to develop a library of technical communication for Ruckus Composites. As a company, we have lots of ideas, theories, and learnings, and we are looking for someone to document these into concise, science-based communication.
The Technical Communicator will lead the development to progress the understanding of carbon fiber repair and inspection. This communication will likely come to life in white papers, technical reviews, and assessments of the application of specific technology or repair processes.
Our audience for this work would typically be; scientists, researchers, industry partners, professional cycling team performance directors, bike shop owners, bike shop techs, students, and consumers.
We are looking for someone with strong technical writing skills, a background in scientific writing, and who may also have a love or interest in cycling (always a bonus). We are looking to find someone passionate about their work, has an eye for detail, and a strong focus on accuracy, to take ownership of the entire content development process.
What will I be doing?
To succeed in this role, the Technical Writer will undertake the following tasks:
Plan, develop, organize, write, and edit all technical communication for internal and external use.
Research, development, design, and technical communication.
Deliver technical communication in prescribed formats, either hardcopy or electronic
Maintain a comprehensive library of technical terminology and documentation
Analyze existing technical communication to maintain continuity of style of content
Manage updates and revisions to technical communication
Lead the delivery of carbon fiber and composite materials technical communication
Demonstrate flexibility and understanding, working with a small, technical team
What skills do I need?
You love bikes! (not required but always a bonus)
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a field of science
Proven experience working in a technical communication position
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in MS Office & Google Suite
Strong attention to detail
Able to write in explanatory and procedural styles for multiple audiences
Skilled at prioritization and multi-tasking

Work Schedule
As this role is for a self-employed independent contractor, work hours will be by mutual agreement.
