Now here’s a repair case we see often enough (damaged toptubes), but with a delicate and somewhat terrifying spin. One of our customers traveled to Cozumel, Mexico in order to compete in an Ironman event. Upon arrival, he promptly unboxed his bike and re-assembled it for some spin sessions in order to shake out the legs pre-competition. During one of those recon rides he unfortunately hit a curb and went over the handlebars, resulting in the frame making direct contact with the ground and cracking badly about halfway down the toptube.
He was in a dire situation: having traveled thousands of miles to compete and with no shop around to help he was forced to improvise. Although we admire his improvisation, under no circumstance do we ever condone home repair methods. Terrifying!
After which he brought the bike frame to us for inspection and repair. We were amazed at what we saw and got right to repair after commenting on how lucky and risky he is!
