The quick release skewer has a paradoxical relationship with the carbon fiber bike frame. At any given moment it can be both a saving, protective grace or a destructive force. In this instance, the over-clamping compression force crushed the exterior interface of this dropout. It’s a common, yet still challenging repair for us and as always we have to entirely remove the broken dropout before we being the rebuild process. We then re-install our custom machined carbon dropouts, re-align the spacing and position and delicately complete the repair. Have a bike frame with a broken dropout?
