Dropout Repairs are one of our specialties at Ruckus. They require an immense amount of patience both before and after the repair process occurs. First of all, we need to fully investigate the amount of damage using ultrasound technology (because anything else is mostly guesswork). This allows us to find exactly where the carbon is damaged so we can remove any compromised fibers before proceeding. Then we need to 3D model and print a test dropout. After we CNC machine a thick, flat plate carbon dropout and have to stabilize the repair and then layup it in place, making sure alignment remains perfect. Then, toss in the fact that the repair is on a Trek Madone 6.9 Radioshack Team Edition signed by none other than Lance Armstrong himself. If anyone can make a perfect dropout repair and still preserve a sharpie signature in the process…it is us. And that’s exactly what we did.
It is our continuing mission to use carbon fiber repair to challenge the status quo of both the bike industry and throwaway culture by keeping good bikes and their memories rolling.
Carbon fiber bike repairs are delicate and time-consuming art, in which we perform every step by hand. Have a Trek signed by Lance Armstrong with a broken or cracked part? Don’t worry, we’ll save the bike and signature for ya! Submit a repair form today to get started with your repair. Submit a repair form here!
