We’re dedicated to saving bikes, even when the repair process is extremely difficult. This Colnago c59 came in for a bottom bracket replacement and a fixing of a seat tube that became separated from a lug. Often times, alloy bottom brackets separate from carbon shells…for a variety of reasons from poor surface prep to corrosion. The BB area also tends to flex laterally under load, which is (probably) what caused the tube to dislocate from the lug in that area. Neither repair is easy, but we’re dedicated to making great bikes even greater through a repair.
For the bottom bracket shell, we removed the old one and wrapped the new alloy one in carbon before re-bonding it. Over the longterm use of a bike, a carbon to carbon bond is preferable. For the seattube/lug separation, we had to vacuum infuse resin into the crack and also lay up twill layers around the area for better stability. We also had to keep note of the distinct lug shape and replicate that transition as well. Not an easy task. Finally, the paint is a delicate iridescent blue, which takes a very precise mixture to blend perfectly.
